Bruce Walker 2 Minute Interview in Jupiter, FL with Ollie Rages
(Regarding Rodney Mullen) Bruce Walker saw his performance and sponsored Mullen through Walker Skateboards in 1978, 1979, and 1980. Rodney’s biggest influence in skateboarding at that time was Walker pro skater Jim McCall. Rodney was coached in his early years by Bruce Walker (who also coached a young Kelly Slater, now considered to be the greatest surfer of all time). In later years, Mullen was coached by Barry Zaritzky, aka SIO Barry.
NOTE ABOUT THIS VIDEO: My son is a skateboarder in South Florida. When he told me some old guy was killing it with tricks at our lcoal skatepark, I ran over with my video camera. When I learned it was legendary skateboarder (from the 1970s) Bruce Walker, I thought to interview him and ask what if he had anything to say to today’s youthful skaters. When this 65 year old told my camera “Don’t ever stop skating, you’ll regret it” I found that inspiring for both my boys to hear, and myself as well. Everyone who sees this video tells me it’s ultra cool footage of a real icon in skateboard. Bruce started his own skateboard deck company back then after his pro career, and sponsored the most influential “kid” at the time, Rodney Mullen.
